3. Hazards Identification

Emergency Overview: This product contains three (3) strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a species rated BioSafety Class 2 by the Centers for Disease Control, but this trio of strains has been tested deficient for Toxin-A production, making them as safe as species identified as BioSafety Class 1, like the other thirteen (13) strains in this formula. BioSafety Class 1 microorganisms are defined by the Centers for Disease Control to be unlilkely to cause disease in healthy humans or animals. However, persons with compromised immune systems should avoid contact with open wounds and/or breathing dust or mist from manufacturing processes. These organisms are susceptible to many commonly used antibiotics, and Alken-Murray is willing to supply antibiotic sensitivity information to any doctor or import health authority requesting it. Although bacterial cultures included in this product were grown in a sterile aqueous medium containing a variety of nutrients, including corn syrup solids, digests of soybean and/or skim milk, glucose or other sugars, vegetable oils, including olive oil, yeast extract, mineral salts, etc., the concentrations of these residual nutrients are believed to be below levels capable of triggering irritation or allergic reactions.

Copies of original supporting documents (toxicity testing of product and Toxin-A deficiency testing) plus our "Confidential Specifications Sheet for CF 1006" (includes antibiotic sensitivity, morphology and enzyme profiles for strains in the formula) are available to any health authority, medical doctor or aquaculture farmer, once they sign and return a copy of our trade secret agreement.

Access the antibiotic sensitivity chart at http://www.alken-murray.com/antiboo-strain.pdf , which provides results of Kirby-Bauer antibiotic sensitivity screening of Alken-Murray's strains, on a strain by strain basis. See more about Alken-Murray's policies in that document.

11. Toxicological Information

  • Toxicological Data: (CFR Title 16, Title 1500.42)
RTECS: Bacterial cultures: 1004274VB / CAS 116469-86-4: 1012301CS/ CAS 7732-18-5: ZC0110000

LD50/LC50 - CF 1006 Product: Pimephales Promelas:IC25 7 Day Larval Survival: 15.15x; IC25 7 Day Larval Growth: 13.56x;
NOEC- Survival Pimephales Promelas: 7 Day Larval Survival test: NOEC 15X LOEC 20X
NOEC- Growth Pimephales Promelas: 7 Day Larval Growth test: NOEC 10X LOEC 15X

96 hour LC50 16.96X Confidence Intervals: 16.12/17.84X

Concentration is stated number of times (X's) the concentration tested exceeds our MAXIMUM recommended dosage for lakes and ponds, the so-called "shock treatment dosage" that represents five (5) times the normal initial dosage, posted in the first column of the aquatic dosage charts (USA & Metric) for formulas CF 1003 through CF1008. For an initial 1200 cubic meters of water, the first dosage is 80 grams of CF 1006. A "shock treatment" of 5x normal first dosage = 400 grams, and this will deliver faster environmental cleanup and limitation of pathogenic invaders. To reach the 18.18X level at which the product began to cause health problems for Pimephales Promelas, a dosage of 7200 grams (7.2 Kg) of Alken Clear-Flo® 1006 would be necessary.

Actual Client Overdose Without Harm: One Alken-Murray client with a 4,000 cubic meter pond was advised to apply a proper "shock treatment" of 1.13 kg (2.5 lbs.) of Alken Clear-Flo® 1006 (5X the 240 gram first dosage listed in the "Week 1" column for a pond containing 4,000 cubic meters of water), but instead the client ACTUALLY applied the entire contents of the 50 lb. fiber drum (22.68 Kg) she purchased to treat for a whole year. Applying 50 lb. In a single dosage is approximately 20X the shock treatment we prescribed to provide maximum speed cleanup and seeding. of biomss cultures The client reported a clean pond, sparkling water and healthy show Koi, but we advised her to never deviate above our "shock treatment" dosage formula (Maximum 5X first column dose).
  • Carcinogenicity: Ingredients not listed by ACGIH, IARC, NIOSH, NTR, or OSHA

12. Ecological Information

Environmental Fate: This product is not likely to bioconcentrate and is unlikely to create any negative environmental impact, other than a slight reduction in oxygen concentration at the site of release.

Environmental Toxicity:

  • Aquatic Toxicity: Pimephales Promelas: IC25 7 Day Larval Survival: 15.15x; IC25 7 Day Larval Growth: 13.56x; / NOEC- Survival Pimephales Promelas: 7 Day Larval Survival test: NOEC 15X LOEC 20X / NOEC- Growth Pimephales Promelas: 7 Day Larval Growth test: NOEC 10X LOEC 15X

13. Disposal Considerations

 RCRA Hazard Class (if discarded): Neat, unused product is not considered a hazardous waste, according to RCRA regulations 40 CFR 261. For proper disposal of used materials, an assessment must be completed to determine the proper waste management options permissible under applicable rules, regulations and/or laws governing client's location. Wash containers down with water and disinfect with a 1% sodium hypochlorite solution before disposal Then remove or deface product label to avoid confusion if pail or drum is later refilled. Clean, empty containers should be recycled or disposed of through an approved waste management facility.
