Hydrogen Sulfide Treatise

FALL POND CARE &
POST-HERBICIDE CLEANUP

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 1008C is a concentrated dry blend of eleven gram-positive, endospore-forming Bacillus, five gram-negative, vegetative bacteria, enhanced with raw cellulase and xylanase enzymes, formulated to more rapidly degrade falling leaves, grass clippings, and other plant debris which can cause a buildup of organic sediment if not treated. This formula is the ideal product for use within ten to fourteen days following short-term herbicide application (products such as Sonar®). This safe and effective product is formulated to prevent buildup of hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, and fatty acids, a common occurrence during cold winter months without treatment. ALL INGREDIENTS ARE LISTED ON THE CANADIAN DSL. WHMIS rated as D2B for live bacterial cultures and xylanase enzyme.

.

CHARACTERISTICS:

 Bacterial count:  4 billion CFU/gram
 Fungi count:  50,000 CFU/gram
 Appearance:  Free flowing, brown powder
 Odor:  Yeast-like
 pH:  Neutral

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

  • Safe for fish, crustaceans, wildlife, farm animals, humans and living plants, when used as directed.
  • Accelerates decomposition of leaves, small branches, grass clippings and scum.
  • Reduces buildup of animal and fish feces.
  • Prevents accumulation of sulfides, mercaptans and fatty acids.
  • Enzymes produced by bacterial cultures include: protease, amylase, esterase, lipase, cellulase, xylanase, gelatinase and lecithinase.
  • Contains micronutrients to jump start microbial germination.
  • Uses Canadian DSL listed bacterial cultures.
  • Rapidly effective at temperatures from 45 F to 98 F (7 to 37 C).
  • Contains three psychrophillic strains, functioning down to 39 F (4 C).
  • Effective pH range is 5.5 to 8.5, with optimum performance around 7.
  • Non-toxic, non-corrosive. Mild skin irritation possible from enzymes.
  • Non-pathogenic, natural microbes are provided in spore form to assure long term stability and shelf-life.

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS:

Thoroughly mix each pound of dry product with two gallons of warm (approx.70 F or 21 C) water from the pond or lake to be treated. Allow the mixture to hydrate for two hours, stirring vigorously every half hour. After final settling, carefully pour off the top liquid layer (supernatant) for use, squeeze all liquid from the bran that has settled into the liquid and toss the remaining bran into the pond. A man's Tee-shirt makes a very effective filter.

Thoroughly saturate leaves and grass clippings (before they can become water logged and sink) with supernatant, prepared as in the previous paragraph, in a clean sprayer. Apply ten to fourteen days after using a short-acting herbicide (see manufacturer's instructions about duration of activity of the particular herbicide used). Our best experiences have been with Sonar®. Determine the dosage needed based upon the amount needed to saturate the dead plants, either floating on the surface, or submerged. It is important to thoroughly saturate the dead plants you wish to degrade.

If in doubt, determine amount to use from the  Aquaculture/Lake/Pond dosage charts. Use the dosage chart for "CF 1003 - 1008". CF 1008C is safe for use in conjunction with any of our other ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 1000 line products.

PACKAGING AND HANDLING:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 1008C is packaged in 25 and 50 pound containers. Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or open wounds and wash hands with warm, soapy water after handling.
