ELECTRON ACCEPTOR TO PREVENT CORROSION DURING SULFIDE OXIDATION

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN® 894 is a chemical formula that combines approximately 30% sodium nitrate, an electron acceptor that changes the by-products of hydrogen sulfide oxidation from sulfuric acid to non-corrosive sodium sulfate. Augmenting this primary chemical compound is ALKEN® 896 BioStimulant, which delivers a proprietary blend of complex organic and inorganic salts to speed bacterial germination, growth and reproduction. Meanwhile, the sodium nitrate in the product changees the environment from anaerobic-fermentative, fostering production of odors, including hydogen sulfide, into an anoxic environment that encourages growth of sulfide-oxidizing and denitrifying bacteria, especially those strains capable of performing both reactions simultaneously, including Paracoccus denitrificans, Paracoccus pantotrophus and Thiobacillus denitrificans. Alken-Murray combines both species of Paracoccus with a trio of symergistic Bacillus discovered to share the same sulfide-oxidizing, denitrifying talents, in our product Alken Enz-Odor® 6.

ALKEN® 894 also supports improved performance of a variety of Alken Clear-Flo® and Alken Enz-Odor® products applied to remediate excess food FOG in collection systems, lift stations, or assisting with high COD industrial influent, arriving from paper mills, refineries, animal farming, textiles and other industrial manufacturing, preventing system shocks and upsets. ALKEN® 894 also increases the speed of upset recovery, when upsets are unavoidable.

If a single treatment product is desired, Alken Enz-Odor® 9 duplicates the chemistry of this product, but includes a stabilized blend of 10 endospore-forming Bacillus, selected for their ability to optimally benefit from the chemistry offered by this formula, to speed digestion of food FOG, toilet paper, vegetable and fruit pulp, fatty acids and hydrogen sulfide, while the chemistry maintains an environment that discourages growth of odor-producing bacteria; species.

CHARACTERISTICS:

 Appearance:  Translucent ivory color liquid
 pH:  7.0 - 8.8
 Odor:  None to slight
 Specific Gravity: 1.23 +/- 0.05 at 15 degrees C
Shelf life:  Minimum two years at full strength

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

  • Protects from corrosion by eliminating formation of sulfuric acid during sulfide oxidation.
  • Assists oxidization of chlorite in the system.
  • Increases metabolic rate of Alken Clear-Flo® 4003,4004, 4006, 4007, Alken Clear-Flo® 7000 series and Alken Enz-Odor® 6,8 &14 under anaerobic conditions.
  • Non-corrosive, non-toxic alternative to hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, potassium permanganate and ferrous sulfate.
  • Contains NO chemical surfactants or solvents
  • pH range: 4.5 - 9.0, wider pH range than before, but most strains are acid-loving.

DOSAGE:

ALKEN® 894 should be fed directly to system, using a chemical metering pump, withdrawing directly from pail, drum or tote in which product is shipped. For best results, divide calculated daily dosage into 96 small doses, dispensed every 15 minutes, for uniform treatment of all wastewater flowing through system.

Initial Application: 19.2 Liters of of  ALKEN® 894for each 1 Kg of sulfide present (or 2.3 gallons per 1 pound sulfide in wastewater).

Maintenance for Flowing System: Apply daily 4.2 Liters of ALKEN® 894per 1 Kg of sulfide present in daily volume, following initial application, described above.

APPLICATION:

For best results, link product dosage-metering pumps to station pumps, so that wastewater is continuously treated as it enters the force main. This product can also be applied to "hot spots" of hydrogen sulfide production in large basins. Since hydrogen sulfide generation is inversely related to flow rate, dosage should be increased during low flows and reduced during peak flows.

PACKAGING AND HANDLING:

ALKEN® 894  is packaged in 5 gallon plastic pails with pour-spout and 55 gallon closed-head plastic drums. Store above - 15 deg. C or 5 deg. F. Formula should be stirred or otherwise mixed thoroughly prior to use, each time the pail or drum must be accessed. Store in a cool dry place. Avoid inhalation of mist and wash hands with warm soapy water after handling. Avoid eye contact.
