3. Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview: Product should neither be inhaled NOR
eaten by humans OR animals.
Potential Health Effects:
Signs and Symptoms of
Acute Overexposure: Eye,
Signs and Symptoms of
Chronic overexposure: Dermatitis
and skin sensitization
Medical Conditions Generally
Aggravated by Exposure:
Ingestion: This product contains lactose, so those
individuals intolerant to lactose may experience acute digestive discomfort
DSP ingestion may result in abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea,
shock, hypertension, slow pulse, cyanosis, coma and convulsions. MSP is
used as a food additive with no adverse effects.
Inhalation: (Acute) Inhalation may cause throat irritation
and coughing. (Chronic) No effects reported in humans.
4. First Aid Measures
Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air
Ingestion: Wash mouth out with water or milk. Get
medical aid for chemical ingredients.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and footwear.
Wash skin with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Wash clothing before
Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with water for
15 minutes. Get medical attention.
Note to Physician: Treat chemical exposure symptomatically
5. Fire Fighting Measures
Flash Point: > 200 F by PMCC
Flammability Limits: NA
Autoignition temp: NA
Fire Extinguishing Media:
Water spray, carbon
dioxide, dry chemical
Special Fire-Fighting Information:
Unusual Fire and Explosion
Hazards: Strong oxidizers.
Possible violent reaction with sodium hypochlorite.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Soil spill: Dig a pit, pond, or lagoon holding area to contain
liquid or solid material. Cover solids with a plastic sheet to prevent dissolving
in rain or firefighting water. Water spill: Add suitable agent to
neutralize spilled material to pH 7 then place into a chemical waste container.
Wear approved respirator for nuisance dust during cleanup. US Regulations
(CERCLA) require reporting spills and releases to soil, water and air in
excess of reportable quantities. The toll free number for the US Coast Guard
National Response Center is (800) 424-8802.
7. Handling and Storage
Store in cool dry place. Prevent
skin and eye contact. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use.
Avoid creating dust. If dust level is extreme, see item 8 for respirator
information. Keep container closed when not in use.
8. Exposure Controls/ Personal Protection
Ventilation System: Good general ventilation is advisable
Personal Respirators (NIOSH
or European Standard EN 149 Approved): Use
respirator to screen out nuisance dust and fumes. The specific respirator
selected must be based on contamination levels found in the workplace,
must be based on the specific operation, must not exceed working limits
of the respirator and must be jointly approved by NIOSH and MSHA. The following
respirators are recommended based on information found in the physical
data, toxicity, and health effects sections and are ranked in order from
minimum to maximum respiratory protection: any dust and mist respirator;
any air-purifying respirator with a dust and mist filter; any powered air-purifying
respirator with a high-efficiency particulate filter; any type "c"
supplied-air respirator operated in the pressure-demand or other positive
pressure or continuous-flow mode; any self-contained breathing apparatus.
Skin Protection: Long sleeved clothing and gloves, to prevent
prolonged skin contact with this substance. Eye Protection: Safety glasses if dust is raised
Other Control Measures:
in accordance with good hygiene practice. Avoid handling which would create
large amounts of dust.

standard Draize, 500 mg/24H, mild. Eye rabbit, standard Draize, 500 mg/24H
Carcinogenicity: Ingredients not listed by ACGIH, IARC,
NIOSH, NTR, or OSHA
12. Ecological Information
Environmental Fate: . If diluted with water, this chemical
is not expected to have a significant environmental impact beyond increasing
eutrophication in water bodies. This product contributes 800,000 mg/Kg of
COD, and 18,200 mg/Kg of soluble phosphate to a water body
Environmental Toxicity: Phosphate nutrients can increase
eutrophication of lakes, ponds, reservoirs and other waterways, so nutrient
release should be minimized as much as possible, although COD delivered
by this product will encourage heterotrophic bacteria in the water body
to assimilate the included phosphate.
13. Disposal Considerations
RCRA Hazard Class (if
discarded): Neat, unused
product is not considered a hazardous waste, according to RCRA regulations
40 CFR 261. . For proper disposal of used materials, an assessment must
be completed to determine the proper waste management options permissible
under applicable rules, regulations and/or laws governing client's location.
Use until less than 1 inch remains in the container, triple rinse with clean
water, and pour rinse water to sewer. Then remove or deface product label
to avoid confusion if pail or drum is later refilled. Clean, empty containers
should be recycled or disposed of through an approved waste management facility.
