Alken Enz-Odor vs The Herd of Skunks

A lovely large house, in a quiet subdivision, was for sale in the winter of 1998-99. When the homeowners first called humane trapper, Jim Reavis, to remove an animal from under their house, they believed they had a problem with a single groundhog. Mr. Reavis told them that a groundhog was not going to come out in the winter, so he didn't see any way to help them until it warmed up.

The homeowners called back in a few days, complaining of a "strong musky odor", so Mr. Reavis, a retired policeman, investigated and discovered a skunk. A humane trap netted the culprit, which sprayed profusely once it realized it was trapped. This skunk was moved to a distant location and set free. The next day, the homeowners complained that the odor was WORSE!

Investigation revealed another skunk, also successfully trapped, moved and released. The odor was so terrible that the homeowners had to leave ALL of their windows open, despite the below freezing night temperatures.

Futher investigation revealed MORE tracks! Within the next two weeks three more skunks were successfully caught, spraying furiously as they realized they were trapped. Of course, they were spraying furiously anyway, since it was mating season for the species. The homeowners were beside themselves. How can you sell a house that smells strongly of skunk? The odor was so strong that it permeated their clothing. When the lady of the house, took her purse to work, at a dental clinic, the patients threatened to leave because of the odor. In short, she was desperate.

Listening to the homeowners' piteous pleas for help, Mr. Reavis decided to try the pint sample of Alken Enz-Odor he had obtained when the Edwards family was having a garage sale last year. He mixed 1 pint of Alken Enz-Odor, original formula, with 4 quarts of water and sprayed it in the areas with the strongest odor. Under the deck, where bicycles, a lawn mower, a spreader, roto-tiller, etc. were stored, the odor was the most offensive, so he concentrated treatment in this enclosed area. He did not have quite enough product to properly treat the open area at the back of the house, where the last skunk was trapped, but he used what little product was left anyway.

The next day, Mr. Reavis returned to see the results and there was no more odor under the deck and only a mild odor in the open area at the back of the house. The homeowner reported that this was the first night they could shut the windows without gagging. It was the first morning in months that the family woke up without the odor of skunk permeating their home. Mr. Reavis checked around the house and promised to return in a few days to verify that all were gone.

When Mr. Reavis returned to check the house in a few days, there was no odor under the deck BUT, something had been digging trying to get into the under-deck room and THERE WERE MORE TRACKS!!! That's right, there was a 6th skunk!!!

Part 2 - March 2nd: The homeowners returned from vacation, Mr. Reavis set another trap for this (hopefully last) skunk and tested his 4 oz sample of Alken Enz-Odor 3 to compare its efficiency for skunk odor with the original Alken Enz-Odor. The Enz-Odor 3 performed equally for the small area it covered, but this new skunk objected more strenuously to capture, spraying a wider area, including Mr. Reavis' truckbed. Since he had no more of the Enz-Odor 3, but he did have a few gallons of the original product at home, the final cleanup was completed with the original product.

We used to have the phone number for Mr. Reavis to give a personal testimonial, but have been informed that he died, so this number has been removed.
