 ALKEN NU-BIND 2-5FF

Hydrogen Sulfide Treatise

MERCAPTAN, AMINE AND FATTY ACIDS ODOR BINDING LIQUID

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN NU-BIND 2-10X FF is a fully formulated MANUFACTURING CONCENTRATE - containing a proprietary natural substance, which binds mercaptans and amines (also has some effect on hydrogen sulfide) with a synergistic blend of four non-pathogenic, Biosafety Class 1, endospore-forming strains of Bacillus, which manufacture protease, lipase and amylase enzymes with optimum activity and degrade propionic, acetic, butyric, isobutyric and lactic fatty acids, to provide a safe "natural solution" for a variety of noxious organic odors. Nutrients and catalysts act as biostimulants while sophisticated non-resoiling surfactants, designed specifically to enhance penetration of garbage cans, dumpsters, loading docks, fitness facilities, garages and basements. Also suitable for use in barns for swine and cattle, when liquid formula is preferred.

CHARACTERISTICS:

 Bacteria count:

 300 million CFU(colony forming units)/mL

1.135 trillion CFU/gallon

Appearance:  Pale yellow turbid liquid suspension
 Odor:  "Soapy lemon" fragrance added
  pH:  7.5 to 8.5
 Effective Temperature:  35 - 110 deg. F (1.7 - 43.3 deg. C)
 Effective pH:  5.0 - 9.0

APPLICATIONS:

  • Neutralizes mercaptans and amines, and, to some extent, hydrogen sulfide odors, without using an unpleasant masking perfume.
  • Unique new strain of Bacillus oxidizes sulfides.
  • Improved degradation and deodorization of acetic, butyric, isobutyric, propionic and lactic fatty acids.
  • Clean and deodorize trash containers, dumpsters and surrounding areas, loading docks, fitness facilities, garages and basements.
  • Provides initial control of mercaptan, amine and fatty acid odors in animal barns, etc., while bacterial treatment gets a chance to seed the system, eliminating the cause of odors.
  • Concentrate is stable and has a long shelf-life.

TEST RESULTS:

  1. When a panel panel sniff tested blind samples of butyric acid odor, treated with Alken® Nu-Bind 2, the leading national odor control brand, and plain water, the panel agreed that Alken® Nu-Bind 2 decreased 77% of the odor, while the leading national brand decreased odor only 50% compared with zero reduction for plain water treated sample.

  2. Two pairs of 16 ml test tubes of each of the following compounds were filled with 10 ml of highly concentrated solutions of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, diethylamine and triethylamine. To one pair of tubes for each test solution, 2 ml of Alken® Nu-Bind 2 was added. This dilution represents a 1 + 5 dilution ratio, the minimum dilution required to allow bacteria to germinate. For the other pairs of tubes, 2 ml of plain water was added. All tubes were sealed and incubated at 30 C for two hours. Headspace gas was then collected using a gas-tight syringe and analyzed with a gas chromatograph, with the following results: Alken® Nu-Bind 2 reduced hydrogen sulfide 92% more than plain water; reduced ammonia 46% to 60% more than plain water; reduced diethylamine 46% more than plain water; and reduced triethylamine 49% more than plain water, as read by GC headspace analysis.

  3. Alken Nu-Bind 2 was diluted 1:100 with water and sprayed onto a fresh layer of dairy cow manure and this was compared with a similar layer of fresh dairy cow manure sprayed with untreated water, of equal volume. After 5 days, results were compared using the following protocols: Ammonia was measured using an Orion ammonia electrode, model ISE-8710 with an Orion model SA 720 meter, calibrated using ISE-8710-S2 1000 mg/L ammonia standard, diluted 1:32 to produce a 31.25 standard, expected to be within range of these results. COD was measured using CHEMetrics COD kit K-7361 (0 - 1,500 mg/L), test developed in a Hach COD reactor, model 45600, results read by a Hach Datalogging Colorimeter, model DR 890, calibrated using CHEMetrics A-7301 COD standard (1000 mg/L, used as sold and also diluted 1:4 for a 250 mg/L standard and 1:8 for a 125 mg/L standard to fully embrace all the expected results of this test. Phosphate removal was measured by CHEMetrics phosphate kit, K-8510 (0 - 25 and 25 to 250 mg/L), colorimetric method, compliant with APHA 4500-PC. Anhydrous potassium phosphate was diluted to make standards, from 5.0 to 25 mg/L to verify results of test. Increase in biomass was read using our QC 1, Count of Aerobic Micro-organisms and Spore Count, using the serial dilution method authorized by Standard Methods for Analysis of Water and Wastewater. The table below indicates the results of tests performed 5 days after treatment.

Note: The capital letter E indicates that the following number is an exponent of 10, thus 1 E 7 = 10 million, 1 E 9 = 1 billion, 1 E 10 =10 billion, etc. Thus 1 E10 is 10 times as concentrated as 1 E9.

FORMULATION RECOMMENDATIONS:

Use the entire contents of the 55 gallon drum. Dilute one part concentrate with nine parts of water, taking into account the volume of fragrance and/or color to be added in final formulation. Add the remainder of formula (fragrance and/or color) and blend slowly for a minimum of 30 minutes to assure proper spore dispersion in solution. Do NOT allow product to stand without agitation during repackaging to drums, pails or bottles. Do not use Alken® 896 as an oxygenating nutrient catalyst with this formula, as it will cause stratification and ruin the odor binding capability of the formula. Product is normally sold fully formulated, but scent can be omitted from the manufacturing concentrate, on request, when your order is placed.

DIRECTIONS FOR READY-TO-USE PRODUCT:

The microbial component of Alken Nu-Bind 2 is activated by DILUTION with water. Thoroughly shake bottle or pail, before diluting, ensuring that all of the spores are in solution. Shelf-life of diluted product is one week. Hot water, bleach, disinfectants, and strongly alkaline detergents will deactivate Alken® Nu-Bind 2, and should neither be mixed with the product, nor used as a pre-cleaner. Disinfectant should not be applied sooner than 2 hours after treatment with Alken® Nu-Bind 2.

For large area applications (garbage cans, dumpsters and surrounding surfaces): , Dilute from 1:10 to 1:100, based upon concentration of odor and speed with which odor control is required. Spray thoroughly over source of odor. If odor is caused by odorant added to propane gas, spray over the area from which odor is emitted. If petroleum spill is involved use Alken Enz-Odor 12 instead.

PACKAGING AND HANDLING:

ALKEN NU-BIND 2-5x FF is packaged in 5 gallon plastic pails and 55 gallon plastic drums, as a "special order" item. Store in a cool place. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and open wounds. Wash hands with soap and water after handling.
