 3. Hazards Identification

Emergency Overview: DANGER! Corrosive. May cause severe irritation to gastrointestinal system if swallowed. Irritating to eyes and skin. Causes digestive and respiratory tract burns. Hygroscopic. Target organs: Blood, central nervous system. DEHA is hygroscopic.

Potential Health Effects:

  • Signs and Symptoms of Acute Overexposure: Very irritating to eyes, skin, respiratoruy tract and digestive system. Excess inhalation could cause nausea, lightheadedness, drowsiness or chest pain.
  • Signs and Symptoms of Chronic overexposure: Chronic inhalation and ingestion may cause effects similar to those of acute inhalation and ingestion.
  • Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: None known.

 4. First Aid Measures

  • Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air. Get prompt medical attention.
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Allow victim to rinse mouth with and give victim large amounts of fruit juice or water to drink. Get victim to hospital promptly.
  • Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash skin with soap and water. Wash clothing before reuse. Get medical attention if skin is burned or if irritation persists.
  • Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with water for 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. If irritation develops, get medical attention.
  • Note to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively. There is no specific antidote.

 6. Accidental Release Measures

Use proper personal protection apparatus and appropriate breathing apparatus as indicated in Section 8. Dike spillage, scoop up with absorbent material and place in containers. A vapor suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors.

 7. Handling and Storage

Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Store in cool dry place away from incompatible substances. Keep container closed when not in use. Store at moderate temperatures, do not freeze. Avoid contact with liquid, mists or dried residues. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flame. Follow disposal instructions for hazardous chemical waste. Do not ingest or inhale.

  • Ventilation System: Good general ventilation is advisable. Local exhaust ventilation to decrease airborne concentration below permissible exposure limits.
