In keeping with our concern for the environment, Alken-Murray has relinquished our EPA registration for Alken trade-named biocide formulas. If a biocide is required to treat a particular facility, we advise distributors and clients to purchase such products from chemical companies, like Dow Chemicals, which specialize in formulating and selling biocide products.
Alken Treatment 50 Liquid oxygen scavenger for boiler corrosion control; catalyzed sodium sulfite. This product is USDA authorized (code G6) for use as a boiler water additive, used in the preparation of steam that will contact food." This product is also FDA 21 CFR 184.1139 compliant
(M) Alken Treatment 52 Dry powder oxygen scavenger for boiler corrosion control; catalyzed sodium sulfite.   This product is FDA 21 CFR 184.1139 compliant, but was NEVER submitted to USDA, so we advise clients to use Alken Treatment 53 (below) instead.
(M) Alken Treatment 53 Dry powder oxygen scavenger for boiler corrosion control; catalyzed and de-characterized sodium sulfite & sodium lignosulfonate enhance performance. This product is USDA authorized (code G6) for use as a boiler water additive, used in the preparation of steam that WILL contact food." This product is also FDA 21 CFR 184.1139 compliant.

When phosphates from pesticides, detergents and chemical water treatmene nt end up discharged into natural waterways (lakes, ponds, lagoons, canals, rivers, streams, etc.) they can lead to overgrowth of various species of algae and Cyanobacteria, increasing BOD and COD to such a high concentration that dissolved oxygen levels drop below minimal levels necessary for survival of fish and other aquatic species, totally devastating the entire eco-system.

Alken-Murray encourages water-treatment clients to replace the use of phosphate and phosphonate-based treatments with newer technology that produces reduced environmental impact. The Alken-Murray Corporation website home page and EACH application section has its own search input box. Imput "scale control" to find all posted products that mention this term in the document. Product technical bulletins and MSDS for the most popular Alken-Murray products have been posted to the Alken-Murray website. A link to the product technical bulletin can be found via a bold blue underlined "live link" from the product application index appropriate for that application. Once the product technical (information) bulletin is opened, by clicking its link, a link to an online copy of its MSDS can usually be found from the top of the PIB. Less popular products are only identified by a bold black product name on the appropriate product application index, followed by a short description of the product's benefits. Product technical information bulletins and MSDS, updated within three (3) years, may be requested via Alken-Murray's product name, which is listed on posted copies of MSDS or product technical bulletins. as well as on the product application indexes. To obtain an updated copy of a posted MSDS which shows a date older than three (3) years, simply e-mail "msds@alken-murray.com", FAX 1-540-636-1770 or TELEPHONE 1-540-636-1236 to request an updated MSDS and product technical information bulletin, providing the product name given in the TOP right-hand corner of the MSDS. The product identification code number is the number given on the last line in "Section 1" to the rigfht of "Formula ID Codes". Very few products have more than one official name and formula ID code, but products which are offered in more than one concentration, usually a standard concentration and a 2X to 50X concentrate (designed to reduce freight costs or to allow clients to manufacture the standard strength) are offered. The concentrates usually share the same root Formula ID code as the 1X standard strength, but have a number following the decimal to indicate a difference. For example, Alken Clear-Flo 1100 (the mirror name for the industrial use of this product is Alken Clear-Flo 7110) using the Formula ID codes 1100 & 7110 for standard strength. In contrast, the Formula ID codes for the 50X concentrate are 1100.05 & 7110.05. Do NOT confuse our "Formula ID codes" with the "Manufacturer's CAGE code". assigned to a manufacturing company selling to the US government by the USA government, to help them keep documents from that vendor together. Alken-Murray's CAGE code is 2A384, and Alken-Murray posts its CAGE code on all of its MSDS, to aid that organization effort.

Alken-Murray will continue to offer two phosphate-based powdered formulas, ALKEN TREATMENT 62 & ALKEN TREATMENT 63, and a single liquid phosphate-based formula, ALKEN TREATMENT 72, so that systems delivering good performance can continue to do so without being forced to completely change their testing and treatment protocol.
